The big trails go on sale in late spring or summer: Chester Zoo by mid-May, Northern Lights in early June, Dunham Massey by late May to July, RHS Glow in August, Knowsley by early September. None of the sources dates a full sell-out; what goes first is weekend and early-evening slots in December, and Dunham Massey added extra dates in late November 2022 because of demand. Getting the dates you want
- Northern Lights and RHS Glow have off-peak or 'saver' nights in late November that cost noticeably less than December weekends.
- Northern Lights gives 20% off to people who register for its early-bird list before release.
- RHS members pay a lower Glow price (garden entry is covered by membership), but still need to book a slot.
- Every big trail uses timed entry slots, so the earliest evening slots on December weekends are the ones to book first.

Yuletide's dates are late because the only dated sources are November articles. Blackpool, Arley Hall and Lightopia could not be dated (Lightopia has not run at Heaton Park since 2022).
