St Mary the Virgin, the parish church on Davyhulme Road, holds Carols by Candlelight on the Sunday before Christmas, 20 December, at 6pm. It is a traditional evening of carols and readings by candlelight, free and open to everyone, and an easy first carol service for children who can manage an early evening. For younger children, the church's Crib Service on Christmas Eve at 4pm is shorter and made for families.
